Big Tip Number One!
Begin writing your novel today! There are some fundamental basics to make your writing experience more pleasurable.
Firs, always make sure you quickly begin your writing - without taking the time to actually think about it. What? No really. The biggest problem new writers have is that they are not willing to let a sentence go without first "checking it out" and making sure it is okay. This not only wastes time but it also creates a problem associated with using a different part of your brain to function. It's also the leading cause of "writer's block"!
Next, after about an hour of straight writing - stop and take a break. Go back some later time and re-read what you wrote. This is the time to edit. This is the time you begin using the other part of your brain!
Then repeat the whole process over again.
Next Tip:
What to write about?
Do this. You will never find a "New" story! That's correct. Everything's been written before.
So - find a story you really like - like, "Rocky", or "The English Patient" and re-write the story completely changing every facet of it - enough such that it wouldn't be considered plagiarism.
For example, instead of Rocky Baboa, the story could be of a little girl who wants to play baseball on a leading boys team. The coach decides to give a "girl" out there the chance to play - and guess what - that's right despite all setbacks the little girl shows everyone she means business. Instead of training on pig carcasses (the way Rocky did) perhaps she uses her ballet to work for her....I don't know - it's your story but you get the point.
